A Wonderful Word and a Wonderful Guy

A year ago, I had a delightful lunch with Alice Hammerstein Mathias. I took along this collection of songs from the Oscar Hammerstein II Collection for her to autograph. Upon my request to sign the book, she looked a bit challenged. Not wanting to upset her in any way, I said, "Oh, you can just sign your name." She immediately said, "Oh, no. I don't want to do that." And then a sweet smile graced her face, "I know!" she declared and then began to write. I was thrilled that she used one of my favorite words - a powerful word that her dad loved, too. I know that day was a wonderful one for me.

    • Thank you so much, Margaret. I remember you so fondly from our February Sing-along in Oscar’s living room. On Saturday, June 2nd, we’ll be having a “Bring your own lunch sing-along social” at the farm from 11 to 1. Held outside on the front lawn, it will be part of the Doylestown Bicentennial Celebration. We won’t be having one on Oscar’s July 12th birthday this year, but hope to have one the weekend of September 15-16. Please come and bring all your friends to the June 2nd event. I’ll look forward to seeing you again.
